Safer Places have launched a new qualification called Supporting Children as Domestic Abuse Victims. This is a level 3 course accredited by NCFE. This qualification is designed for practitioners interested in expanding their knowledge on the impact of domestic abuse on children and their families. During seven days of extensive training, learners will gain specialist knowledge and the core skills required to support child survivors of domestic abuse.

The course includes topics around:

  • children's development
  • children's rights and law protecting children
  • domestic abuse - the impact on children and how to support them to recover and build resilience
  • children’s unique experiences and risks (including child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse)
  • developmental trauma - representations, impact and trauma-informed support
  • multi-agency working, including role and responsibilities of other agencies
  • practical skills of working with children

There are no entry requirements, but previous knowledge of child development and/or domestic abuse, and experience of working with children and families would be beneficial for learners.
