Working Together to Safeguard Children - View are being sought on planned changes to Working Together to Safeguard Children, which is the guidance used by people whose job it is to help children and keep them safe.

Updating Working Together now is central to delivering the plans to transform Children's Social Care, set out in Stable Homes, Built on Love to see strengthened multi-agency working across the whole system of help, support and protection for children and their families, a system re-balanced towards help at an early point, and strong, effective and consistent child protection practice.

Information sharing advice - The Department for Education are gathering a range of views to help ensure that the information sharing advice provides more clarity, is easily understood, and instils confidence to share information appropriately amongst practitioners. Mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse - Seeking views on how a legal duty to report child sexual abuse would affect children, organisations, workplaces and volunteers.

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse recommended that the government make it a legal requirement for certain people to report child sexual abuse when:

  • they’re told about it by a child or perpetrator
  • they witness it happening
  • they observe recognised indicators of child sexual abuse
